Shiretoko Villa Hotel Freeze

Seeing Shari dake right there in the front yard made me understand why I’d been so keen to visit Hokkaido. Such a lovely place.

We were very comfortable here, my husband, our young son, and me. The staff were so kind, and the cottage sits in a beautiful natural setting with a breathtaking view of Mount Shari. One September morning, we spotted an Ezo squirrel cracking open walnuts. We had breakfast out on the terrace, with warm soup and delicious bread. It was a lovely time. I’d recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to unwind in nature.

Our early flight the next day meant we took breakfast to go, and the sandwiches and soup were delicious. We stayed with our family at the end of August, on our last day after moving from a larger hotel. Just before the trip, there had been a bear incident in Shiretoko, and our child was scared. We asked about it and got such kind, helpful replies. There wasn’t as much to do here as at the bigger hotel, so I wasn’t sure how the kids would take it. But they seemed happy just running around and playing ball in nature, which turned into a valuable, fun experience for them. We also saw more stars than we ever had before.

Out in the quiet countryside, we could enjoy time to ourselves without feeling watched. The room and open-air bath were spotless, and both the private barbecue dinner and breakfast soup were delicious. The owner and his wife welcomed us with such warmth that I’d like to visit again.
