Hotel Kogure

The food was a highlight. The kaieseki suited our foreign taste buds well, and the breakfast tempura was good, though I found the udon disappointing because it wasn’t as bouncy as I expected. They took care with our allergy, and the dining service was impeccable. I especially liked the chart showing the farms and other places the ingredients came from. Most were from the Gunma region, which made the meal feel special. The gold onsen was memorable and so large that, even with plenty of guests there just after check-in, it never felt cramped. When it’s empty, though, it can feel a little ghostly, especially on the walk and escalator down. Service throughout the stay was impeccable and full of Japanese hospitality and attention to detail. We had a modern room, but it still felt a little dated. The hotel is huge, and details like the white lights in the dining hall and the hallway lighting made it feel aged rather than luxurious. It’s a traditional Onsen hotel, even with the renovations. A lot of it still feels like the 2000s. We had a really good stay and I’d highly recommend it.

The room was nice and fairly large by Japan standards, and the scenery from the hotel was lovely. There’s a big onsen with several kinds of pools. It’s a traditional onsen hotel, though you have to walk a bit to reach the “steps”.

I’ve never seen an onsen in Japan this beautiful or spacious. It’s the best and biggest I’ve come across, and my family and friends had an amazing time here.

We’ve come back for a second visit. The view is nice, the room is spacious, and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel sits right in the middle of the onsen street.
