Toyoko Inn Shizuoka-eki Kita-guchi

It's walkable from the station, though the beds may feel hard if you're not used to Japanese beds. On Expedia there are rates with and without breakfast. I'd skip the breakfast option: it's open to every guest and all they have is rice balls, so I thought the extra money was wasted.

The breakfast was nice, and check-in went smoothly. My room had a city view, and there are two elevators. But noise kept coming from the walls and ceiling, as if something outside was hitting them several times. The soundproofing isn't good. And right after I checked in, I lifted the pillow and found two hairs on the sheet. That's not what I expect at Toyoko Inn, and I'd never seen that kind of cleanliness issue there before.

When I vacation in Japan, Toyoko Inn is still my go-to hotel.

The room was clean and the service was great, and breakfast had miso soup, curry, and rice balls, a different spread from other Toyoko Inn hotels. It's also close to the entertainment district. Shizuoka Station is a convenient 10-minute walk away, so I recommend it if you're visiting Shizuoka.
