Shosanbetsu Onsen Hotel Misaki No Yu

That outdoor pool had a stunning view, and there are five pools in all, including a cold one, plus a sauna. I came just for the onsen and loved it. Entry was 500 yen, with a little extra for a towel if you need one; we brought our own. If you’re driving up Hokkaido’s west coast, for example toward Rebun or Rishiri, this is well worth stopping at.

The outdoor onsen looks out over gorgeous ocean scenery, and there’s a coin laundry on site, which was super handy. My husband and I were delighted to find this place. The meals were among the best we’ve had at Japanese hotels, ryokans, or inns. Our room was quiet, the staff were lovely, and the futons were cushy, with great duvets and pillows. I only wish the baths had been hotter. We’d come back in a heartbeat.

The Ibsen was well maintained, with a lovely view of the night sky and ocean. It was a clean, cosy hotel overlooking the sea, and the staff were courteous and spoke multiple languages with ease. A pleasant stay.

I really felt this place and fell in love with it. The people working there were just awesome. Since I live in Tomamae, I hope I can come back many times in the future when I have a holiday from work.
