Hotel Grateful Takachiho

We lost nearly an hour trying to sort out a booking issue that the manager fixed almost right away. We had reserved two twin beds through Capital One Travel, and our confirmation clearly said so, but the front desk said they only had one bed on the reservation and wanted another 4000 yen for two. Kai at the desk brushed us off, kept saying it wasn’t their problem, and told us to contact Capital One ourselves. He wouldn’t investigate, and at one point walked away to the staff area, leaving us without help. Another young woman on staff eventually helped us reach an English-speaking manager. Kai’s attitude was the worst front desk service we had in Japan. He showed no initiative or respect for our time, and didn’t seem to care about helping us. The manager’s quick solution made that especially frustrating. Based on this experience, I’d seriously think twice about staying here. Avoid this hotel.

We drove here, so I can’t say how easy it is to reach by train or bus. The room was a decent size, parking was free, and there’s a Family Mart downstairs. Service was good and fast.

There’s a convenience store downstairs, laundry machines, and parking on the side of the hotel. It was quiet and affordable, away from the tourist area, so it suited us as drivers. Staff spoke a little English, enough to get by. The hotel was being renovated while we were there, and we didn’t get to try breakfast.

They even lent us E-Bikes, which made it easy to explore Takachiho’s natural beauty more closely without a car. Staff spoke English well and were keen to answer questions and help with our trip. There’s a 24-hour convenience store just downstairs, and the hotel itself was clean, well kept, and had plenty of amenities. I spent a day here this week and was really impressed by the service. It was the best experience I’ve had in the Kyushu region on this trip. Highly recommend it.
