I stayed one night and can’t recommend this place. It wasn’t clean, felt unhygienic, and had a really bad musty smell. The bedding wasn’t proper, and the quilt was greasy and smelled bad, unpleasant to touch. The location wasn’t good either. Two stars only because the grandma was friendly.
The room was clean, and the basic necessities, water, electricity, and Wi-Fi, were provided. It’s an old, classic place, with separate individual urinals, WC toilets, and a shared shower room for men. For women there are two WCs and a shower room. Bring your own toiletries. It’s near the Gorge, so it works for a night’s stay.
The room was very spacious, and parking was available. The older lady running the hotel, who I think also lives in the same house, was very friendly and kept checking that we had everything we needed. Definitely recommended for the stay. One thing to know: we were told about a traditional Japanese religious dance held daily in town. It’s very improvised, fairly long, and monotonous. Older local people seemed to enjoy it, but I wouldn’t recommend it to Western tourists.

The landlady seemed nice, though she was a bit hard of hearing and communication was somewhat difficult. The price is fairly reasonable compared with the expensive tourist spots nearby, but that’s about the only positive. I stayed because the surrounding area was full during the three-day weekend Kagura Festival. The place was totally unclean and dusty, and the bedding was stained. It felt so unsanitary that I wouldn’t stay again.
