Imakuni Ryokan

The rooms are nice and spacious, older in style but well kept. The public bath really needs renovation, though. I'd say it might be okay around 13-15k, but we paid 25k because of the special dates, and I wouldn't do that again.

For what I paid for one night, this hotel was a real disappointment and not worth it at all. It cost 320AUD. The room was old, with the bed right beside an old heater that hummed loudly all night, so it was impossible to sleep. The lights were dim and made the room feel creepy. There was also a very unpleasant smell, maybe from humidity and food left by the previous guest, though honestly I'm still not sure what caused it. The onsen felt more like a tub of hot water, and it wasn't very hot, which pretty much defeats the point of an onsen. I also asked the front desk woman to book a table for me. I gave her the restaurant name, phone number, and all the details in Japanese so they would be easy to read. She glanced at them for about five seconds, then opened her own phone book and made a booking. When I went to the restaurant I meant to visit, it was closed. I thought the reservation had gone through and that she'd confirmed it was for that night, so I was confused and had to find somewhere else. The only place open by then was a much more expensive fine dining restaurant. That's where I found out she'd booked me by mistake. I was late, and the staff there thought I was rude for arriving late. With the language barrier, explaining what happened was too difficult, so I just apologized and paid 4-5 times what I meant to spend on dinner.

The rooms are spacious, but the place feels a bit old. Everything at breakfast was served with care, though tourists should know a traditional Japanese breakfast includes fish, salad, and vegetables.

The room felt a little old, but the front desk staff were friendly and really helpful. It's also close to public transit.
