For ¥540 before tax, I thought the lunch set was a good deal. It came with pickled radish, a small salad, miso soup, and coffee afterward. The miso soup was tasty too. This was my first visit, and I ordered the chicken katsudon set that's only offered at lunchtime. You can pick either soy sauce or sauce flavor for the katsu, and have the udon hot or cold. Both versions of the katsu were crispy and delicious.

The Marunaka set meal was 980 yen and included pork loin cutlet, squid cutlet, and sashimi, according to the staff. The food was average, and the portions seemed a little small. The sashimi was three slices of seared fish. It felt like a workday bento lunch, and the food wasn't especially satisfying since the inn seems to be the main business. It was my first visit. I pass by often and noticed it's open now. It's an inn that also operates as a restaurant. It was quiet inside, and it seemed some people were there to eat rather than stay overnight. They only had lunch menus, and there weren't many choices.
It tasted like a regular diner meal, comforting and dependable. Thanks for the food. I stopped in for lunch while on a business trip. There seemed to be quite a few local regulars, mostly older people. I ordered the yakiniku lunch for 740 yen: about five slices of grilled meat, rice, a small side, pickles, udon, and coffee afterward. The rice portion was on the small side, so it may not satisfy a big appetite. I didn't check whether refills were possible.
These days, you can hardly find anywhere to get lunch for ¥440 including tax, and this place even serves a demitasse coffee afterward!
The staff were kind, but I won't go back. There's no safe or even a mini fridge in the room. Breakfast was just rice, raw egg, and natto. Other dishes that looked tasty were listed on the menu, but I felt ripped off. The baths are separated only into men's and women's, and so are the toilets. I found that really disgusting. This is the worst inn I can imagine. I wish they wouldn't call it a ryokan.
