It was a really relaxing weekend. The two young hosts were friendly and enthusiastic, spoke English and Chinese fluently, and had lots of travel experience to share. They served simple, tasty meals and gave us plenty of sightseeing tips. The guesthouse is compact, cozy, and clean, with tatami flooring and traditional Japanese bedding in a renovated old inn. Bathrooms and toilets are shared on the first floor, and there are lots of board games in the common area. Toiletries aren't provided because of the property's environmental policy, but you can buy them at reception. If you like backpacker hostels, you'll probably enjoy this place. You can take a bus directly from Takayama City, and there's a stop right outside. There aren't any shops nearby, so having a car would be more convenient. If you haven't ordered dinner ahead, it's best to pick up food before you arrive. Another option is to take the bus to nearby Hirayu Onsen for its hot springs and restaurants. Kamikochi is also reachable by bus and isn't far away.

The rooms were larger than in most hotels, but there was no heating; the hotel did provide extra blankets. There's just one shared bathroom on the first floor. I only stayed one night, arriving late and leaving early, and the accommodation was suitable for the price. It's about 30 minutes from Kamikochi, which is handy for hikers, and the onsens aren't too far away.

This was my favourite place to stay in Japan. The hosts were amazing, and the atmosphere felt just right. They made us a lovely homemade dinner that worked for vegetarians, too. The location was great. Definitely worth staying here!
