Hoshokaku

The room was spotless and really comfortable, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay and would love to come back.

The rooms are old and worn down. On the plus side, the location is convenient, and the bath facilities seemed relatively new compared with the rest of the ryokan.

We loved Hoshokaku. It was very clean, with spacious rooms and great service. After a cold day walking around, our outdoor private onsen was so relaxing. The futons were surprisingly comfortable, though, as in my other Japan hotels, I haven’t found the pillows very good. The skin care products were amazing. We chose the Hida beef package, and most of the breakfast and dinner was great, although there were a few fermented tastes we couldn’t get used to. The location is great too, just a couple of minutes downhill to the historic district. Would absolutely recommend!

I loved my stay and wished I could have spent more than one night. The large traditional tatami room was comfortable and well equipped, with a lovely view over the town. There was a peaceful sitting area where I could hear the woods below. The food was delicious and the onsen restful. The pyjamas were too big, though. It’s well situated near the main attractions in this charming town, and I’d highly recommend it.
