Konji Ryokan

A clean, quiet place with a great view, good food, and hot water that felt like a dream. The people were so friendly and patient with us despite what we didn’t know. Health and prosperity to the house.

I’m grateful that I could use the hot springs whenever I wanted, and staying there peacefully with my dog was a rare treat. Oku-Hida Onsen is already a place I love, and now there’s another inn I want to visit. The complimentary egg over rice was absolutely delicious. I hadn’t realized how well the toppings go with it. I think I’ll start by trying just green onions at home. I’ll definitely bring my dog back when I miss Oku-Hida!

We stayed overnight on our October 11, 2025 visit to Takayama city, and I’m already planning to return to Konji Ryokan next year. The inn felt a little old, but everything worked fine. It rained that night, so we missed the night view, though I imagine the stars must be beautiful when the sky is clear. Our child loved seeing the inn’s Akita Inu and black Shiba Inu, and they soothed my husband and me too. Pet-friendly places are hard to find, but this inn is run by a breeder and had dog amenities ready, so we felt at ease bringing our dog. Breakfast was simple and refreshing: rice with raw egg, plus condiments, cup miso soup, instant coffee, and tea. There were three kinds of eggs that day. The rice is kept in a room on the first floor, and you bring it back to your room to eat, so you don’t have to worry about other people. Going back for seconds is a little inconvenient, though. My daughter had a miraculous breakfast experience. Her first free-range chicken egg had two yolks, and when she picked the same kind for her second bowl, that one had two yolks too! We were all so surprised. I think it was possible because the inn serves eggs from free-range chickens raised on the premises. A raw egg over rice was an enjoyable change from inns with both breakfast and dinner included. The owner was incredibly kind. He helped carry our luggage from the car and even asked about our plans for the next day. I’m very grateful.

The staff were so kind that the stay felt worthwhile on that alone. They even watched my dog before check-in while I went to Kamikochi, which let me relax. The breakfast rice with raw egg on top was delicious, and the trip became a wonderful first memory of Gifu. I’d love to return. The building isn’t especially large, but the room was clean and comfortable. I’d heard there might be bugs, though I didn’t see any, and I think they take good care of things. The hot spring has four washing areas, plus indoor and outdoor baths that seem to have different kinds of water. I was really happy to finally enjoy it.
