MIYAMASOU

This inn had a charming feel that made me feel at ease. The rooms are old, but they were clean, so that wasn't a problem. There aren't many outlets, perhaps because of the building's age, so bring a power strip if you'll need to charge your phone or battery after hiking or sightseeing. The food was good for the price, with local ingredients like trout, carp, and Hida salmon. I'd love to come back.

The food and hot springs were very good. The one downside was the weak Wi-Fi in the building, which didn't work at all in the annex.

I went to the open-air bath about six times during my one-night stay because it was so close to the room. Soaking in piping-hot water while snow fell in the -6 degrees Celsius cold was amazing. The water left my skin feeling smooth, too. The changing room was nearly as cold as outside, though, and I started cooling down while getting dressed even after warming up in the bath. I got used to it after a few visits. The indoor bath had water added, so its temperature was just right. The building and rooms have a charming atmosphere, which makes sense since it's over 100 years old. The open-air and indoor baths were the best part. Dinner was a satisfying amount, and the Hida beef had a sweet texture that got tastier the more I chewed. For the price, the service was good and the value was excellent. I was very satisfied. If you care a lot about details, a recently opened hotel might suit you better.

I came with high expectations for a ryokan and left with no desire to stay at one again. The food was the biggest letdown. We had both dinner and breakfast, and nearly everything was too salty. The fried food was dry and tasted like it had been cooked long ago and reheated in a microwave. The building had an old-fashioned atmosphere, which was nice to experience, but the refrigerator was so moldy it was practically unusable. Everything is old, and the facilities are about what you'd expect of a traditional inn. Wi-Fi only worked on the first floor. There's not much nearby: the nearest supermarket is a kilometer away, though the bus stop is close. From the accommodation area, you can see a little of the men's bath during the day. The open-air hot spring is dimly lit and felt scary at night.
