The owner kindly took in and stored our luggage, which made the trip so much easier. We got to experience a traditional Japanese home, and although it’s old, it’s clean and spacious. We shared it with two other groups. The walls aren’t soundproof, as you’d expect in an older house, but everyone was considerate and we slept well. The bedding was really comfortable, and the air conditioning and shower were good.

The chiffon cakes at breakfast were soft and lovely, without being too sweet. I arrived early for check-in in late November, and because my room was already clean, the staff kindly let me in ahead of time. I would have been happy just to leave my bags, but they insisted. Everyone was pleasant. The guesthouse has a distinctive Japanese feel, with tatami mats in the bedrooms and very thin walls. I’ve seen people mark it down for the noise, but I don’t think that’s fair when traditional construction is part of the experience. Nothing bad to say about the place, and I’d happily stay again.

Mayoumi was so friendly and helpful, and made me a delicious chiffon cake to take with me the next day. I had the accommodation area to myself while getting ready to start the Kumano walk, and felt comfortable and safe on my own. The hospitality was outstanding. The place was clean with plenty of space. The facilities are very traditional, which is part of the charm, so don’t expect shiny and new. I’d suggest picking up some extra breakfast food at a local konbini, since the cake alone isn’t enough.

I didn’t realize this cafe also operates as a guesthouse. The atmosphere was comfortable and the service was wonderful. I ordered the organic coffee, served with two small pieces of their famous chiffon cake. Both were delicious, and the cake practically melted in my mouth. Give them a try!
