Kerama Terrace

The close-up sea turtle sighting made my wife’s birthday unforgettable. Our guide knew the snorkeling spots so well that it seemed like he knew each turtle, and he made the tour both fun and informative. His assistant and he took us to the port in a K truck, then we boarded a boat for Tokashiki Beach. The ride over was more thrilling than a ride at USJ, and their clear safety briefing and snorkeling instructions helped us feel completely secure. We couldn’t get a room because it had already been fully booked, but the whole staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We had a lovely Okinawa Soba lunch, followed by an amazing birthday fruit and ice cream platter. After a break, we headed out for the tour, and the boat ride back was fun, too. Thank you so much, Kerama Terrace, for making the whole experience priceless!

We planned to spend five days on Tokashiki during our trip around Japan, hoping to enjoy nature and relax. The island is beautiful, though the hotel itself is very basic and you shouldn’t expect much. The food was okay, but there were no seconds, and it was Italian-style cooking. I was disappointed, since I’d hoped to enjoy Japanese cuisine in Japan. The hotel picked us up at the ferry, which was a nice touch, and the reception area was okay apart from a damp smell. We were asked to choose a scented oil, which felt strange to me. Once we saw the room, we understood why: it smelled extremely damp, the balcony couldn’t be used, and the bathroom was rusty. We left the windows open for two days, but it didn’t help. After one day we decided to leave and booked another hotel in Naha. At that point we didn’t care about the cost, though the hotel did reimburse part of it. I can’t recommend this hotel and was surprised to see positive reviews.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the food was delicious. We stayed two nights in a very clean, comfortable room with two large beds, a beautiful bathroom, and an amazing jacuzzi tub. I hope we can come back. It would be great if breakfast could start a little earlier, around 7:30.

I stayed here in 2013, and it came back to mind while we were talking about what we’d want for our honeymoon. Everything was taken care of so well: the small staff carefully prepared every dinner, drove us to secluded beaches, and arranged guided activities. This place was absolutely amazing. I hope to return someday.
