Grandvrio Hotel Tokushima

For what I paid per night, I expected a lot more, so this review is harsher than some of my other hotel reviews. I was disappointed with both the room and the service. The only things I appreciated were getting into my room at 14:20 even though check-in is officially at 15:00, and the free on-site parking. This is a huge hotel set up for groups, conventions, parties, and weddings. The way it's laid out and how guests are handled made me feel that groups matter more than individual travelers. At check-in, nobody told me about the restaurants. I got a small flyer described as “more info,” but it only had the Wi-Fi password and checkout time. There wasn't any restaurant information in the room binder either. It left me wondering if they wanted guests to spend money there. Since no one explained anything, I didn't bother trying the restaurants or bars. The room was spacious, but that was about the only good thing I can say about it. The furniture, wallpaper, carpet, and tiles all looked old and worn. The desk console and table had visible damage, with bubbles beneath what looked like a cheap finish. The lights were confusing, with too many buttons and remotes. The AC is centrally controlled, so I could only adjust airflow and the temperature at which it would stop. It took a while to cool the room, maybe because the sun had been on the windows, and the power only worked with the key card inserted. The bathroom was the worst part. I was pleased at first to see a full-sized bathtub, but then noticed mold in several spots between the tiles. There was pink bacterial growth on the shower curtain, which seemed not to have been cleaned in ages. The soap dispenser was falling apart and held together with tape, and the tub looked old too. I was only put on the fourth floor, looking mostly over the entrance and a little river. The window was dirty, with dust caked on the outside, so the view didn't impress me. I regret paying so much compared with other hotels and getting an old, worn room along with service that felt below what I'd expect from a hotel of this caliber. I wouldn't recommend staying here or come back myself.
