Grids Tokyo Akihabara Hotel&Hostel

The washroom was spotless, and the hostel itself was very clean and quiet. The location was pretty good too. There were three showers for roughly 30 people in a room. The beds felt private, though they warmed up easily. Each pod had an electrical outlet.

The staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful, and the hostel was clean and modern throughout. Grids is one of the best places I've ever stayed, with a nice mix of capsule-style sleeping, a no-frills modern hotel, slick branding, and a cafe/bar. The linen was changed daily and always felt crisp and immaculate. The main drawbacks were weak ventilation in the sleeping capsules and a small common room with a microwave but no stove.

I stayed here on and off over a two-week trip around Japan and would strongly recommend it. It was pleasant and inexpensive, and the hostel was tidy and cleaned every day. The staff were polite, friendly, and spoke English very well. My dorm bed was comfortable and had a light and sockets. I'm 6 feet tall and fit fine, though taller or bigger people might find it a little small. The communal kitchen on the top floor felt cramped, and the washing machines and dryers weren't very good.

I booked a private room for four with three friends. The room was pretty small, but the facilities were great, and this was the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The people were friendly, the public toilet was clean, and the air conditioning was very cold, so summer shouldn't be a problem. They provide towels, toothbrushes, razors, shampoo, body wash, and other things. If you're coming with three or more friends, consider it, since you can get a private room. There's also a floor with 30 people mixed together, which doesn't feel very private.
