&Here TOKYO UENO

The family room was a good size, especially compared with others we’ve had in Tokyo, and everything felt fresh and well equipped. We also made good use of the laundry and enjoyed the Onsen. There were plenty of places to eat nearby, plus markets and shops a short distance away. The hotel is handy for major train lines and attractions, and the staff were really friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

The rooftop onsen was wonderful, and the amenities were great. Being right across from Ueno park was another lovely part of the stay. We were travelling as three adults, a child, and an infant, and the hotel worked perfectly for us. We added the very affordable breakfast buffet since not many places serve food early in the morning. It was fantastic, with such soothing, home-cooked food that we’re still thinking about it. I’d definitely come back.

We spent a lot of time looking out the window with our little one and pointing out new words. The view was lovely, and the larger room we booked at &Here gave us plenty of space. It felt worth it, especially since this was our first trip to Japan and we’d been warned that rooms can be small. The staff were wonderful, and it was easy to explore the park, side streets, and nearby food spots from here. Breakfast was the one difficult part for us. It got very, very busy in the small dining area, and a few more choices, especially yoghurt for our little one, would have helped. We managed, though, and still really recommend the hotel.

The room itself was a real bright spot: spacious, comfortable, very clean, and nicely designed with relaxing Japanese-inspired details and lighting. The repeated problem was the room card and daily tax process. Nobody explained at check-in that we had to pay the tax and reactivate or change the card each day. When we came back tired, the card would be inactive and we couldn’t even get through the hotel gate. This happened several times. On day two, an older staff member said we wouldn’t need to change it again, but we still did. I don’t object to paying the tax. Having to handle it daily was inconvenient, and a clear explanation on the first day would have prevented the confusion. It might be more practical to collect the full tax upfront. Guests should at least be told clearly how the system works when they arrive.
