KIKKA - Hostel

The rooms may seem small, but that’s common in Japan, and I didn’t find mine small at all. For Tokyo, where hotels are expensive, it was worth the price. Four points was very quiet, with restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The station is within 500 meters, not as far as some people say. There’s a laundromat in the area, but none at the hotel. My room was clean and tidy at check-in, and the policy is to clean it every three days. Free coffee and water are available, along with a microwave, and other amenities are in the lobby. If you’re checking in late, let the staff know, as they may not be available right away. Despite the bad reviews, I enjoyed my stay.

Getting into the hotel late was stressful. We arrived around 2:30am to find the door locked for security, as the sign said, and no one at the front desk. After waiting 15 minutes and ringing about 10 times, I had to make an international call, which cost money, to reach a staff member. I complained to the Marriott group, and they responded quickly. I was generally satisfied with how they handled it. If you expect to arrive late, I’d email or call ahead. The location is great, though, and makes it easy to get around Tokyo. The room was the smallest I’ve ever stayed in. I expected it from the listing, but actually being in it was different. My husband is 180cm tall and couldn’t close the toilet door while sitting down. It wasn’t cheap, but I stayed because of my Marriott loyalty scheme. The water always looked milky, even after running it for about five minutes. The sink and bathtub share a tap, so you can’t use both at once. Water temperature and pressure were okay.

It’s a very affordable choice for a quick weekend away, even if you book at the last minute. It’s close enough to the main attractions, but I wouldn’t choose it with lots of luggage, given the typically Japanese sized room, or if you plan to stay out very late in the more touristy areas. Best suited to one or two people.

The room was small but just right for me traveling solo, and the hotel was very clean and close to public transport. The staff were kind and helpful throughout my pleasant stay. I’d book here again on my next visit to the city.
