The location is handy beside Kuramae Station on the Asakusa subway line. There aren’t many eateries right nearby, but you can walk to an izakaya, some bars, a 7-Eleven, and a 24-hour pharmacy that sells convenience goods. It’s not central Tokyo, though with a bit of planning you can get to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Disney, Roppongi, Ginza, and Tsukiji seafood market. Sumida River is also walkable, with a riverside terrace where people relax, walk pets, or jog. You can see around seven to nine bridges lit up at night, open to vehicles, bikes, pedestrians, and the metro, plus Tokyo Skytree and the Asahi building with its “poop” shape across the river. At reception on Level 2, there’s unlimited access to the coffee machine, and the coffee tastes okay. Breakfast includes pastry buns and croissants, but no bread, butter, or fruit jam. Butter would be a nice addition. The building’s shape and its single lift are drawbacks, though the lift wasn’t a major problem. My room, the one ending in 5 at the end of the corridor, wasn’t great: a structural ceiling beam was above the bed, the carpet smelled and needs shampooing, and the curtains were dusty. On lower floors, cars speeding at night and people talking were noisy. The lift floor had visible leaves and dirt, and someone had to be told to clean it.
The station is close, and I booked the family room for myself, my husband, and our toddler. It was fairly spacious by Tokyo hotel standards, with room for two suitcases and a stroller. Unfortunately, the bidet wasn’t working. We asked them to fix it, but it stayed broken for nearly a week.
We had a comfortable stay. We came to Japan for the cherry blossoms, and as luck would have it, a cherry tree right by the hotel was in full bloom. Breakfast was free, and everything tasted great, especially the hot chocolate I liked best.
A convenient base for exploring Tokyo, close to transport and with convenience stores nearby. The rooms were clean, the staff really friendly, and the view from our room was nice. They had complimentary bread and coffee in the morning, just right for starting the day. We’ll be back!
The receptionists were really friendly and helpful. I had luggage sent on to kyoto, and they filled out the form for me, so all I had to do was pay. They give you bottled water and towels each day, plus a limited bread selection for breakfast. The main downside was the single washer-dryer for the whole building, so whether it’s free is mostly luck. The station is very close, and there’s a direct train to the airport. It’s one train ride to asakusa, or about a 20-minute walk, with konbinis and plenty of food nearby. The room was small, but fine for me alone. I could lay out my one big suitcase and still move around. The toilet seat was heated, and the shower had strong pressure. I’d definitely stay here again.
