Shibuya Granbell Hotel

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location made us happy with our stay. Shibuya Crossing, Hachiko statue, and Shibuya Station were about a 10-minute walk away, with lots of convenience stores around. We'd stay again if we return to Tokyo. We were there for six nights. At check-in, we could choose daily room cleaning or fresh towels each day. Judging by all the bags on doors, most guests seemed to choose towels. The rooms were small, as expected from what we'd heard about Japan. The bathroom tiles were clean, though the shower floor grout looked black and dirty. They supplied liquid soap, shampoo, and conditioner in tiny bottles. There were only two power outlets, one by the bed and one in the bathroom for the hair dryer, so charging a couple of devices at once was difficult.

I was grossed out and annoyed that I picked this hotel. We didn't stay long, and I wouldn't even consider it if I came back to Tokyo. I usually don't write reviews, but people should know what the rooms are like. The location is the only reason I gave it two stars. Right by Shibuya station, so getting around is easy, and you can walk to the Shibuya crossing, hachiko, and plenty of places to eat and shop. But the room was disgusting. Mold was starting to show at the corners and along parts of the edges of the white wallpaper. The air circulation was poor, and compared with the other hotels we stayed in, it just felt really dirty. They need to deal with the cleanliness and remove the mold from the walls.

Breakfast was included, and there were plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The hotel is in a quiet spot with easy access to several subway and train lines. The rooms were clean and quiet, and although they felt small by North American standards, they were comfortable and practical.

I picked this place so I could explore Shibuya late at night without worrying about getting transport, and it worked out really well. It's right off Shibuya’s new exit. By Tokyo standards, the rooms were decent, and we got a nice surprise with a free upgrade at check-in. Even with four big bags, we had enough room. The price was fair.
