The house’s cleanliness was a serious problem. I never saw regular cleaning of the kitchen, bathroom or toilet while I lived there. One tenant took the trash out occasionally, but the overall hygiene was unacceptable. Other tenants had the same concerns. There was also a ¥50,000 deposit, and for unclear reasons only ¥40,000 was returned even when there was no damage. My first impression was already uncomfortable. A coworker who was moving back to his home country recommended the shared house. I moved in an hour after he moved out, and he had clearly told the landlord to leave pillows, lamps and other necessities for me. But when I arrived, the landlord was cold, and those belongings were gone. My coworker had sent a photo of what he left, while another photo showed what the landlord gave back. After I confronted the landlord, I got only about a third of the items back, and the rest never came. I’d already unpacked and had nowhere else to stay. When I moved out, the landlord pointed to a little dust in a corner. I offered to vacuum again right then, but he refused and charged an extra “cleaning fee” from my deposit. He wouldn’t discuss it or consider a solution. Based on what happened, I strongly feel he takes advantage of foreign tenants to get as much money as possible while failing to provide basic hygiene or respectful communication. Read the negative reviews carefully, and don’t put too much weight on the five-star ratings.

I’d read the negative comments and was a little worried, but my stay was quite different. The house was reasonably clean, and I often saw the shared areas being cleaned. My room was small, as is typical in central Tokyo, but had what I needed for daily life. It was much quieter than the guest house I’d stayed in before. Housing had gotten more expensive, so for the price I paid, I was satisfied.

The house felt welcoming and relaxed, and it was really clean. My room was nice and the futons were comfortable. The people there were so friendly, they’re the best! It’s in the city center, yet the house faces a quiet park. Getting around Tokyo was easy with its well-organized transport system. I’d highly recommend staying here.

For four enjoyable months, I stayed in a private room with a single bunk-style bed and basic furniture. The shared bathroom was on the same floor. The neighbors were quiet, the walls weren’t too thin, and the place felt comfortable. Check-in was easy, and the friendly staff made me feel welcome. The subway and JR Yamanote Line station are about a five-minute walk away. There’s a grocery store on the corner for a quick coffee or baked goods before heading out. Major Shinjuku attractions like the Robot Restaurant and Samurai Museum are both under a ten-minute walk. It’s a straightforward, budget-friendly place to stay, study or attend school in Tokyo.
