I stayed in two of their rooms and visited eight over just three days. It was my worst experience ever. I’m going to upload all the pictures I took. Buckle up, this is a long story. HANZOMON MAYFLOWER HOUSE I was looking for somewhere to stay for a month and a half and found them on Tokyo Room Finder. It seemed kind of sketchy, but so did a lot of other websites. Since I was in Italy, I couldn’t go see a room in person. They asked for 30.000¥ to reserve it, which seemed fine for about 45 days, so I sent the money. When I arrived, they put me in a room I hadn’t booked, saying it was bigger than the one I wanted. It was slightly bigger, but the bed blocked everything (picture 1). I asked if I could move since only three of the six rooms were booked. The second room looked pretty nice, but the mold smell made it impossible for me to sleep there. I’m allergic to mold, and I’d told the guy helping me choose a room (picture 2). I don’t have pictures of the third room, but it was at least okay, though dusty. Nobody was supposed to sleep there, so I thought that was okay. At first it looked like I could move into it, but ten minutes later I had to go back to the first room. The AC in picture 1 was basically a big fan, not an AC, and the window was stuck because they’d installed it there. Good luck with the Japanese summer. ROPPONGI MAYFLOWER HOUSE The next day, Sunday, the guy looking after me took me to Roppongi, where they have a whole building. I saw five rooms: one on the second floor in the middle of the building with no windows and a smell; three on the fifth floor that were kind of nice except mold was growing on every wall, visible from the door (picture 3); and one in the basement. The basement room was kind of good, pretty new, with no signs of mold and central air conditioning. It was small, but otherwise fine. Oh right, this was the only house with a free shower. All the others had coin showers, and at the HANZOMON sharehouse you couldn’t even adjust the temperature. It was set to “Mordor.” I took a panoramic photo on Sunday the 5th at 7:20 (picture 4 and picture 5). My timeline shows I was roaming around Tokyo all day and got there at 7:19 (pictures 6 and 7). I mention this because of pictures 8, 9, and 10. They’d redone the moldy walls, but I only found that out two days later. I had seven hours of jet lag, and on Monday the 6th I started my first day of work here. Once I’d had enough, I decided to leave. I still don’t know where I’ll sleep next. I’m writing this while waiting for a train at the nearest station. I sent them everything, and they started saying I had to pay them back for damaging the house. After I sent my timeline and timestamps, they started threatening me (picture 11). I don’t know what else to do besides write my first one-star review. I think it’s my first, anyway. It’s definitely the first time I’ve been this angry and disoriented. I hope you can avoid this place. Please don’t make the same mistake I did. EDIT: The pictures got messed up, obviously. Pictures 8-10 refer to the fake wall glued over the mold. EDIT 2: I also forgot to say that he claimed the bank kept almost 9.000¥ in commission, roughly 70€!
