Uji Cha-Gan-Ju-Tei House

Loved staying here. It was clean and smelled nice, and the host was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend 👍

The common area made the stay especially convenient. We could borrow plates and glasses for takeout, and there was a fridge for food, handy since most shops shut around 5-6 PM. My room was cozy and tidy, with a TV, AC and comfortable futon. After a week of walking around different cities, borrowing a Japanese bike from the hostel was a real highlight of my Japan trip. Uji was easy to explore from here, whether heading to specialty coffee and matcha shops or relaxing by the river. The place is easy to find and everything felt within walking or biking distance. I liked the laid-back atmosphere and hope to come back to Uji and stay again.

The tatami rooms are nice, and the place is clean and well located. Doing laundry is easy since you can wash and dry it there.

A basic but comfortable room, and a common room where guests kept things quiet but still chatted a little. There’s complimentary coffee, tea and even beer there. When we came in, calm music was playing, incense was burning, and a fish tank video was projected on the wall. Such a hidden gem, easily the best hostel I’ve stayed in.
