There’s very little around the hotel if you want shops. It’s right on the lake, and most rooms have lake views. We had a room upstairs with a balcony. Our half-board meal was very good Japanese food, mostly good-quality fish. The building is older, and some parts feel a bit too old, though there is an elevator. The public bath was good, with a sauna. The men’s side also has an outdoor bath, if you can find it. I really hope future guests get Wi-Fi in their rooms too. At this price, not having it is unacceptable.

From the time we arrived, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the hostess paid such lovely attention to us during a superb dinner. It made the meal a memorable experience. We also took the morning cruise from the hotel’s lakeside, and our breakfast was ready when we boarded. Bento on a boat, how good is that! The room felt a little dated by current standards, but it was clean and comfortable, with a great view of the lake. The hotel is off the usual route, but worth the extra travel.

The room smelled of cigarette smoke, though it was clean overall. Staff were very polite, and the food was excellent. I had a great stay, but the onsen was average.
