Cottage Kutsuroki

The manager was the best part of the stay. She helped arrange taxis and gave me hiking suggestions. I would’ve stayed longer, but the place was fully booked. We spent five nights in an independent cottage. It was clean and quiet, right by the Gochomae bus stop. The small kitchen works for simple meals, though you’ll need to bring your own seasonings.

The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and every window had a mosquito net. The host was super helpful, and the price was great, with the Gochomae bus stop nearby. The only small downside for us was that the WiFi didn’t work.

The owner was really kind and took time to explain things about the island. She lives next door and even brought us passion fruits and star fruits for snacks, a local-style version of hotel service. We were warned not to leave food out overnight. We forgot once and found ants in the morning, but it was no big deal. Just put things in the fridge and take the rubbish out. The cottage is more of a bungalow: clean and practical, with a bathroom, fridge, and air conditioning. It’s surrounded by grass and mountains, and the tatami floor and futon bedding were pleasant. You can borrow cutlery from the owner if you need it. Buses for hikes and trails are convenient, and restaurants and supermarkets are a 10-15 minute walk away. It’s a good option if you’d rather avoid a traditional hotel, and I’d happily return. We paid 11,000 yens per night for 3. Five stars, I can’t think of anything to complain about.

The cottage was clean and new, with free parking right beside it, and the host was very nice. I really enjoyed staying there, especially for the price.
