Meisho Sansuien - Yuda Onsen -

During my 6-night, 7-day trip to Japan, my 2 nights at Sansuien were the most memorable. I’ve stayed at several ryokans in Japan, but this one was easily the most satisfying. The staff were attentive and warm, and made me feel valued. I also loved soaking in the hotel’s large public bath, with its high-quality Yuda Onsen water. It was blissful and relieved the tiredness from traveling. Dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared, with thoughtful menus, fresh ingredients, and great flavor. I’d definitely come back to this ryokan if I visit Yamaguchi City again.

The meals were outstanding and made the stay feel like a real treat. Staff were welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. We needed to send 2 bags by takkyubin, and they arranged it without any fuss. A great place to stay.

Tucked away in the busy city of Yamaguchi, this place has a nice atmosphere and simple but good food. It’s a good change of pace for a short getaway. The hallways felt a bit hot in summer, and I imagine autumn might have made the visit spectacular. It did hit my wallet a little hard, though.

The quiet location was nice, but the building is old, has no elevator, and involves a lot of stairs. The onsen tub was tiny, and there wasn’t hot water in the morning. I saw people get into the bath without showering first, which made the onsen experience disappointing. Dinner and breakfast were brought to our room, but in the morning a staff member kept urging us to leave so she could clear the breakfast table. She had a hard time understanding that we wanted to keep using the room until checkout.
