A dog-friendly hotel resort serving very good Italian food cooked by a Japanese chef.
A pleasant setting.
This was the worst hotel I've stayed at. The minute I walked in, I wanted to leave, and I should have. I would've been happier at home. Even the hallway outside the room was cleaner. I booked a standard room, then found there was no toilet in it. I later noticed a small mention in the website's facilities section, but who thinks to check whether a hotel room has a toilet when booking? The room was small, dirty, smelly, and drafty. It cost 13,000 yen per person, plus 3,000 yen for my dog. I'm never staying here again. I had hoped the food might make up for the room, but it was watery and not very tasty. There was no dog food either. I expected the bath to be a hot spring, but it was just regular hot water, and the open-air bath was closed. A large spider was in the room, and all they provided was a mosquito coil. I can't understand the high reviews. Could reviews from Elfo guests be mixed in? I wonder if anyone will come back.
This was my second stay here, in mid-January 2026. I came for the stamp rally, and it was Carlo Gr's second visit too. My dog, Taiyo, has stayed at this pet inn for a total of 51 nights, 58 nights in May 2019, and 340 nights as of January 2026. A young staff member greeted us this time. We booked the weekday standard plan for two people at ¥13,335 per person per night with two meals, the regular weekday rate. A medium-sized pet cost ¥3,300. I used a 30% off Line coupon rather than the official Instagram campaign. Our standard room was on the second floor, on the Mt. Fuji side. It had a kettle, refrigerator, humidifier/air purifier, air conditioner, and heater, with no dog pee smell. In clear winter weather, you can see Mt. Fuji from the second-floor window. There is no toilet in the room. The room might get a bit too hot for elderly guests. The inn has two private baths, with water continuously flowing this time of year to keep the temperature up. One has an open-air bath, but it can't be used in winter because the temperature won't hold. There's no sauna, and the changing room is very run-down. I spotted a deer peeking in through the window while I was bathing. Meals are served in the restaurant, where pets are allowed. Dinner was a course, served dish by dish. I didn't get a menu, so some details may be off. The first course was a platter of four appetizers, all impeccable. The onion soup had a distinctive, delicious flavor and went better with rice than bread. I really liked the carbonara, with its bacon and egg yolk flavors, though my wife wanted more cheese. The pan-fried sea bream soup was the tastiest dish, but tricky to eat. A spoon for drinking the soup would've helped. The lean roast pork was just right for an older person. Pear and strawberry with custard cream came for dessert, looking distinctive and tasting good too. Dog food was cherry meat steak and chicken breast, S 60g for 770 + 220 yen. Breakfast was a Japanese set meal, and the chawanmushi was delicious. You could see Mt. Fuji from the restaurant that morning. There's a full range of dog amenities, but no cages in the rooms. A small dog run is in front of the inn, and a larger one sits between the parking lot and Elfo. The parking lot, next to the inn, has no rack and offers the best view of Mt. Fuji. At 3 pm in mid-January it was 0°C, dropping to -5°C the next morning. The whole facility is showing its age. The building and location are great, with a view of Mt. Fuji, but it feels about time for major maintenance. WiFi ◎, D○, au○, S◎, Rakuten△. The signal is stronger than at neighboring Elfo.
I was only trying to book a room, but the front desk service was awful. The confirmation email didn't say how much it would cost, so I emailed to ask. A week went by with no reply, and when I finally called, they just asked, "Is this an email?" It didn't sound like they'd even checked. Then they hung up before the call was finished. Their voice was so quiet I could barely hear them. I had too many concerns, so I called to cancel. Now I'm not even sure the reservation was actually canceled.
