There are a few things to keep in mind. Some rooms don't have a shower or bath, though they do have a toilet, so check your booking. You may need to use the onsen to wash, while brushing your teeth and using the toilet can be done in the room. This ryokan is in Yudanaka Onsen, and its key only opens the public baths in Yudanaka, not Shibu Onsens. There are no elevators or escalators, and rooms are on upper floors, so that could be an issue with heavy bags or mobility needs. The ryokan is near the start of the cobblestone street of Shibu and Yudanaka Onsens, and has most of what you'd expect from a traditional stay. It's clean, air-conditioned or heated, and yukatas are provided after you settle in. The staff are exceptionally kind and do their best despite the language barrier. They can drive you to and from the station in a small van. The onsen here is small but comfortable, and staff go through the menu with you. The food is excellent, so I'd choose a meal plan. A brisk evening walk down the street was lovely too. The innkeeper was probably one of the nicest I've met. The location is good, though there are some drawbacks. If you're arriving by train at Yudanaka Station, contact the staff for a ride, since the walk to the ryokan is uphill. Let them know your plans as well. The monkey park is too far to walk once you include the climb up the mountain, and the staff are happy to drive you to the station too.

The food was the standout for us: a lavish dinner that left us stuffed and happy, followed by breakfast the next morning even though we thought we'd have no room left. Free parking was a nice bonus, though working out which marked spot was ours in the lot was confusing, even with a translator. It was one of our favorite stays in Japan, despite the rooms not being new or perfect, the location not being especially convenient, and the baths not being the best in town. The charm and care made us feel like part of the family. The rustic rooms felt lived in, everything was explained well despite the language barrier, and we slept very well on the comfortable futons. For an affordable onsen stay, I don't think you can beat it. They were so gracious that we wished we'd stayed more than one night.

I stayed by myself in July 2025. The food was amazing, and the onsen was very well maintained. If the owner offers you a lift to the monkey park, take it. I rented an electric bicycle near the train station thinking I could ride up, but the incline was just too steep. Unless you're an extremely fit triathlete, don't try cycling up there.

The owner was so welcoming and kindly drove us to the Snow Monkey park and the train station. There's an onsen on site, and breakfast was a great Japanese-style one. A very nice place, and we'll definitely stay again.

The owner greeted us at Yusadaikan Hotel with a big smile and was friendly, helpful, and entertaining. The place felt like a peaceful, cozy slice of traditional Japan, and the meals were full of flavor and care. Yudanaka was a lovely place to slow down and take in Japanese culture, away from the everyday rush. Thanks to Yusadaikan Hotel for making our trip to Japan unforgettable.
