Ryokan Matsushima

We were 15 tourists from Singapore, part of a football camp group, and really enjoyed our stay. Maita station is within walking distance, and the staff were generous and friendly. We didn't speak Japanese, but that wasn't a problem. The rooms were clean and spacious, with tatami mats and a table, but no other furniture. There was a mini fridge and locker in the room, and the dining area was shared. The male and female spas made it a unique Japanese traditional experience. Maita is a small town, quiet after sunset, with just a few Family Marts and restaurants. The hotel has one vending machine for cold drinks, but no Wi-Fi or room fans, and there's no laundry service. There is a public laundry within walking distance. If you want some peace and quiet, this place could suit you.

The breakfast and bath were both great. The room was a bit bare bones, as bedding was self-service, which I hadn't experienced in a ryokan before. The hosts' age may be why it was handled this way. For an inexpensive ryokan stay and a taste of suburban Yokohama, it's a nice option.

We booked at the last minute and got a spacious room at a reasonable price. Just around the corner, we found a glorious little Yakitori bar, tucked away in a hole in the wall. A great place to stay if you're in the area.

The service was great and it's a very nice place. It's a little way from Yokohama, but you can get there by subway.
