The facilities were clean and the staff were nice. The website lists the day-visit schedule. The water was clear with a little fine sediment, and smelled of sulfur and tasted salty. It’s 100% natural spring water, without circulation.

From Taiwan, Wu. This was my first time at Onogawa Onsen, and I’m so grateful I got to meet everyone at your inn. First of all, thank you. I was deeply moved during my stay. I was especially impressed by the food and the care behind it. Yuzu came through in the ingredients and added a lovely finishing touch to their flavor. The tableware was chosen carefully for each dish, and the seasonings were so finely judged. You could tell the people preparing and serving the food were meticulous. We didn’t book a suite with an open-air bath, but our 10-tatami room was spacious and warm, with a comfortable futon and beautiful furnishings. I could see how everyone has lovingly cared for this 100-year-old inn and worked hard to maintain it. The sunrise from the hot spring was breathtaking. The scenery around the Onogawa River had a lovely atmosphere too, perfect for a slow stroll. The water was a little hot, so I soaked and rested in turns. It was a wonderful way to unwind, body and mind, and an experience I’ll remember for a lifetime. Thank you all so much.

The room was clean and in great shape, and the air conditioner looked new. Both heating and cooling were comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were delicious too. We’re a couple in our 60s, and this was our fourth visit, after being away for a while. I found a good coupon on Jalan and booked again. I’d always thought it was a great inn, and returning after so long confirmed it for me. The clear spring water doesn’t look much like a hot spring, but it has a faint sulfur smell. The tub is large, and water from two springs at different temperatures is blended to keep it comfortable. It isn’t silky, but it feels good. Since it’s a natural spring, I expected water to spill over the tub’s edge. I looked into why it didn’t, and saw a PVC drain pipe outside the window that rose to the tub’s rim, with water running out there. I assume it keeps the washing area tiles from getting soggy. Still, water overflowing directly over the edge would wash away dirt and hair and make the flow easier to see, so personally I think the pipe would be better removed. Expensive high-end inns are good in every way, of course, but it’s rare to find one this satisfying for a price in the low 10,000 yen range. A great hot spring inn I’d recommend to anyone.

We had meals in the room, so we didn’t need to leave our dog there alone, which was a relief. The room also had its own small hot spring, free-flowing from the source, and we were grateful for it. Walking through the snow to the main building’s large public bath would have been difficult, so we just enjoyed the bath in our room. I stayed with my husband and our dog. We worried he might bark or get into trouble in the tatami room and disturb other guests, but that didn’t happen. We’d definitely stay again if we get the chance.
