Apple Tree Guest house

We were out most of the day and mainly came back to sleep, so this worked fine for a short, budget stay. The rooms were decent, and it wasn’t busy when we visited, so sharing bathrooms wasn’t a problem. The facilities could be cleaner, but Sean was friendly and helpful. Mangwon station and Hongdae are walkable, about 10-15 minutes away.

I liked having a spacious room with a comfortable bed, curtains, two big lockers, and a light beside the bed. There’s a little outdoor spot too, where I could sit with my morning coffee in the sunshine. The neighborhood is really quiet, even though there are shops and restaurants nearby. It’s about seven minutes on foot to the subway and 15-20 minutes to Hongdae street. The common area and kitchen were great, with everything needed to cook, plus free tea, coffee, and a water dispenser. There’s a fridge as well. Bathrooms on both floors were plentiful, and towels and toiletries were free. The owner or manager was kind, spoke English, and gave me tips for things to do. I also saw him scrubbing the floors on his knees, and he cleaned thoroughly every day.

The place had a calm, pleasant feel, and I’d recommend it overall. We stayed five nights, and the location was ideal, just a five-minute walk from Mangwon station. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. A warning about the bathrooms: they used bleach daily but didn’t rinse it away with water. My shorts fell on the floor while I was showering and were completely ruined. Leaving bleach there is extremely dangerous. The host was never around when we needed help. There were also lots of signs telling guests to do what felt like deep cleaning of the hostel. Washing our own dishes and leaving the bathroom tidy seemed fair, but taking out bins and doing a deep clean felt like too much. Be careful about bringing clothes into the shower room.

We had to cancel our Seoul trip, so we contacted the owner several days before our booking to let them know and asked for a partial refund. It was high season, and we thought they’d find someone else quickly. The owner never replied and simply dismissed our cancellation requests. Later, they messaged us through the booking app asking whether we’d be checking in. The guest house seems nice, but the owner clearly only cares about making money.
