Hongdae House Seoul

I’ve stayed here twice and feel comfortable coming back. It’s a great base for exploring Seoul, with Hongik University station not far away and lots of good places to eat and drink just a few minutes on foot. I booked a room for myself and two friends, and we found it clean, simple and cozy. You can cook food, store it, or buy basic cheap food in the lobby. I especially like having a self-service washer and dryer on site, since I don’t want to carry a huge bag of clothes but do want to stay clean. Basic amenities are provided near the rooms. The staff are friendly, and it’s easy to communicate with them through Kakao. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants a comfortable place to come back to in a great area.

The room was clean and practical, and the floor heating worked well. Payment through Agoda didn’t work, but they gave us a discount when we paid them directly by cash or credit card. There’s a washer on every floor. Each use costs 1,000 won in cash, and they provide detergent, which is nice. The front desk staff were very kind and spoke fluent English. I liked their self-serve breakfast setup from 8-11AM: eggs, cow’s milk, orange juice and toast were available, and there’s a kitchen where you can cook the eggs yourself.

We booked a fairly spacious twin room with a private bathroom in a quiet little alley, very close to Hongik University station. The location is perfect. The bathroom was the one issue: the shower is right beside the door, and the bathroom floor sits higher than the room floor. Water kept getting into the wooden partition and then into our room.

There are plenty of good places to eat within walking distance, and the subway is nearby. Trickeye and the ice museum are also close. Getting to the airport is easy and affordable from Hongik airport rail station. Our private rooms with toilets were clean and roomy enough, though the bathrooms were very small. The lack of elevators could be a problem if you have large, heavy luggage.
