Neat House Hongdae

I chose this place partly because breakfast was offered and I had an early airport departure. Instead, I was put in a dark, not very clean basement room beside reception, which didn’t match the glamorous house in the photos. No one explained how to get from there to the breakfast area. I messaged reception, but they replied about an hour later, after I’d already left for the airport without breakfast. They apologized eventually and offered a small discount, but couldn’t transfer it because I don’t have a Korean bank account. I understand misunderstandings happen, but the staff should help resolve them and leave the guest satisfied. This experience was far from satisfactory. Wouldn’t recommend.

The location made it easy to enjoy Hongdae’s nightlife and get back and forth, and the place was quieter than the rest of the area. There’s a cafe opposite, umbrellas to borrow, and you leave your shoes in a shared basement area used by the other rooms. My dad thought we’d booked a rooftop room, but we ended up in the basement. There are three rooms down there, and ours felt very cramped for four people, with barely space to walk in roughly 250 square feet outside the bathroom. The bathroom wasn’t ideal either. You can’t flush toilet paper because of Korea’s low water pressure, which felt unsanitary to me. The shower and toilet aren’t separated, so water drains across the middle of the room, and that may explain some mold.

Just checked in and the service from the women downstairs was a lovely surprise. We got a duplex room with a big terrace, enough space for four of us. It’s a little tight, but clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, and the stay has already exceeded what I expected.

We stayed for three nights. The room was small, but close to the metro. Yen’s service was the best part: she’s from Taiwan and helped us so warmly in our mother tongue, which made us feel at home. Thank you, Yen, your service was amazing!
