The location is the standout: transport, cafes, food, and supermarkets are all nearby. I spent a week here and can see why reviews are mixed. The shared space is nicely laid out, with a simple breakfast that includes boiled eggs, a good bit of protein in the morning. The pods are thoughtfully designed, with a lamp and power socket each. Upper bunks are wider and have room for a bag; lower ones leave little space beyond the mattress. There’s a guest fridge, but it’s tiny compared with the two large fridges for staff. Noise is a real issue on weekends. Bars nearby are barely noticeable on weekdays, but weekend sounds come right through the small pod window, which doesn’t block much. The male dorm door still has no lock, an issue someone mentioned months ago. The metal dorm and bathroom doors bang loudly when people are careless. Guests aren’t warned about this at check-in, and a reminder could help. The atmosphere didn’t feel social. The Korean manager is usually around in the afternoon or evening; I can’t call him especially friendly or unfriendly, but he seemed more communicative with young, pretty Western women than with other travelers. The two other women, possibly volunteers, mostly clean and keep to themselves, and it isn’t clear they’re staff. It can feel automated and unattended. At least it’s not a party place. Cleaning could be more thorough. During my week, the floor by the urinal wasn’t cleaned, the body wash ran out and wasn’t refilled, and the exhaust vents were dusty. Basic daily cleaning seemed partly done, but the hostel needs a deeper clean now and then. I’m not very picky about this, though I understand the complaints I’ve read.

The location really is ideal, close to the metro, restaurants, and nightlife. But the staff were unfriendly, and the cube got incredibly hot. There was mold in the common area and bathrooms. Breakfast was just self-serve toast and cornflakes. Lockers are outside the dorms, while inside there’s no room for luggage, especially when the place is full. I can’t really recommend it.

I stayed in Itaweon, which is a great base for local nightlife, with metro, buses, and taxis all easy to reach. The room was clean and the bathroom spacious. My one concern is that the luggage storage area doesn’t seem to be monitored. Still, I recommend staying here.

The included breakfast is self-serve: cereal, ham and cheese sandwiches, toast with jam or butter, and hard-boiled eggs. They also washed and dried a load of my laundry for 10k won. The hostel is close to restaurants and nightlife, including the LGBTQ area, and near both metro and buses. My family room was clean but compact; more than two people would be a squeeze. It’s good value for the price. There wasn’t much of a social atmosphere, and I rarely saw or spoke with other guests. I’d happily stay here again.

After two nights, I felt compelled to write my first Google review. The manager and the rest of the staff were so unkind, probably the worst tourist-facing group I’ve dealt with. They barely acknowledged you when spoken to, and otherwise were outright rude. The location is great, but staying there made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I also looked through the Google reviews and saw the manager replying very rudely to people, often denying that they had stayed there. That’s bizarre.
