Mr Tho's Bungalows

The hammock on the deck made the price worthwhile, with a quiet, relaxing spot overlooking the water. The bungalow room itself has just the essentials and was clean. There’s a nice lounge area, and they offer different food, drinks, and other services. They tried to help with anything I needed, and I had a good experience.

That riverside porch made the stay for us. There were hammocks, chairs and tables, and it was easy to chat with other guests and soak up the quiet island mood. My friend and I had a roomy twin room with plenty of space for our things, and the family running the restaurant next door were lovely. Breakfast was great, and dinner looked promising too. The island is small enough to cross on foot in about 20 minutes, or in five by bike, which cost $1.50 a day. The only location drawback for me was the boat engines in the morning. That seems to come with any river view room, and we wanted to be up early anyway, having coffee with the cats and kittens and catching the sunrise.

We knew we'd booked a budget hotel, and for the price the room was fine. What made the stay difficult was how rude and hard to approach the staff seemed. Maybe there was a language barrier, but the owner and his young daughter especially made us feel unwelcome. The coffee came cold, breakfast was disappointing, and our room wasn't cleaned during the four nights we were there.

Mr Tho was so helpful during our stay, and even mailed the Apple Watch I accidentally left behind all the way to Cambodia. The riverside rooms themselves are simple, but the beds are really comfortable and the A/C is great. It's a lovely, peaceful island location, and you can rent bikes at the property. I'd absolutely stay again :)
