Chaluenxay Villa

Robert, the owner, was incredibly kind and made us feel comfortable the whole time. He booked my slow boat to Thailand and helped arrange our waterfall tours, which made everything easy. The hotel is beautiful and centrally located, with a short, easy walk to the night market, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Fabulous value for money. I couldn’t recommend this place more.

Breakfast was good and came in a nice amount, with fruit, coffee, a shake, and bread. The staff were friendly and helpful too. It’s a cute little hotel on the main street, well located but outside the loud, busy area.

If noise bothers you more than missed sleep, maybe this is your place. I’d give it three stars. At around 45 USD a night, it didn’t feel cheap for the standard, and I expected better rooms at a rate higher than many other hotels in town. The hotel says “city center,” but it’s about a kilometer from the real downtown, so there’s a fair bit of walking. It also feels old. Several doors need oil on their hinges because they’re so noisy, and the bathroom door in my room wouldn’t close properly. The biggest problem was the noise. A loud tour group talked, opened and shut doors until 1am, then started up again around 5am. Other guests and I made a proper complaint. The owner said he’d deal with it, but it happened again the next night. The hotel sits right beside Wat Xiengthong Temple, so the area is busy and crowded, and drumming starts there around 5:30am. Not a great fit if you’re a light sleeper. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and breakfast is excellent. Still, all that noise made the stay less pleasant.

It feels like this place has seen better days. The rooms look pretty nice, but upkeep and housekeeping seem to be lacking. At this price, you'd expect the facilities to work properly.
