Tony Central Hostel

I usually avoid hostels like the plague, but in lao probang this place felt like an oasis surrounded by desert. The rooms were clean and there were hot showers. I got lucky with my roommates and none of them were serial killers this time, but that’s hostel life.

The location is really good, right in the middle of everything. Breakfast is included: three slices of bread and two eggs, which you can have fried, boiled, or scrambled. Unfortunately the people aren’t nice, but you’ll be fine. Totally recommend for solo travelers on a budget.

It’s not terrible, but there are a lot of little problems, and I don’t think it’s worth the money, especially for a girl traveling solo. It’s cheap and in a great location, but you can find better hostels for the same price or just a little more. The dorm has no curtains, and the bathrooms are quite old, like in many hostels. On my first night they forgot to turn on the heater, so there was no hot water. The staff were nice and fixed it when I asked, but the next day they forgot to turn on the AC in the evening. You have to remind them about both, since they switch the AC off during the day. When it rained on the third night, they put a bucket in the room to catch leaks. It wasn’t very social, mostly older guys, and I didn’t feel comfortable during my stay. Bus and train tickets there were much more expensive than at other hostels.

A handy base for exploring nearby attractions, right in the heart of Luang Prabang. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and affordable, and the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help with questions or anything we needed. Highly recommended for a convenient stay.
