Villa Wanika

The staff made this hotel great. They spoke very good English and were really helpful. When I fell ill in the evening, one of them gave me her own medicine to use. They also helped find me a tuk tuk and even offered to drive me there on a motorbike themselves if we couldn't find one. The room was clean and comfortable, and the location was good.

The location was the only good thing about our stay at Villa Wanika. It was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. There was no one at reception when we arrived to check in. We had paid for 3 nights and told the hotel in advance that we needed to leave a day early because of our transfer. We tried to be considerate and give them time to resell the room. We could have just left the previous afternoon without saying anything, but we notified them in good faith. The owner still refused to refund the night, citing hotel policy, even though she put another guest in the room and wouldn't have lost anything by refunding us. It caused an absurd inconvenience. At check-in, we asked about local tours. The staff member, the owner's son, seemed completely unprepared and said there were no options. Minutes later we found a complete tour catalog right at reception. The room and bathroom smelled like sewage. At night, plumbing noises were deafening, and it sounded like a leak whenever someone showered on the floor above. The main shower didn't work properly because nearly all its outlets were clogged. The only way to get an acceptable flow was to use the secondary showerhead. Breakfast was practically nonexistent, just a croissant, instant coffee, and a banana. It could hardly be called breakfast. The owner offered a room upgrade to "compensate" for the non-refundable night. We accepted in good faith, though it wasn't what we wanted. The next day, while we were on a tour, staff went through all our belongings without permission, mixed wet clothes with dry ones, and messed everything up, saying they needed to move us. They had my WhatsApp number but didn't bother to let us know or arrange a suitable time in advance. This hotel can completely ruin your trip. NEVER stay here!

For a Deluxe Room, I expected more. The room wasn't that great, the shower was disappointing, and the AC heat didn't work. There was no chair or desk, or even anywhere to put my clothes.

Good vibe, friendly staff, and a decent room. The guesthouse is in a good location, and I had a great stay and made some good memories there. Steven
