Villa de Mekong

I slept well and ended up liking the place, though it needs some deep cleaning and maintenance. There was a lot of dust under the bed, above the closet and on the bathroom ventilator. Music from nearby bars went on loudly and late, apparently because Vientiane has no curfew, and the hotel can't do much about that noise.

The room was small but clean, in a beautiful bungalow with a traditional look. Staff were friendly and brought breakfast to my balcony. A karaoke or club place next door can get noisy at night, and earplugs are provided, but it didn't bother me.

I liked the quiet, central setting, the lovely garden, the wooden bungalows, good WiFi and friendly staff. My one complaint was the American breakfast: the bread was bleached and the milk came in a package. The eggs were the only part I found edible enough. I'd much rather have Laotian food. Apart from breakfast, five out of five.

The pillows were wonderful, and the rustic rooms and bathrooms were clean. There was both AC and a fan. Even though it's right downtown, it was quiet, with very little noise from neighbors. My issue is personal: I'm tall and heavy, so I need a sturdy bed and a decent mattress.
