Wisdom Laos Hotel

The location was the only thing going for this place, within walking distance of everything we needed. The room was dirty, with empty water bottles lying around, grime on the sink and tap, and a filthy floor. The bed felt like a wooden plank. The A/C kept cracking and making loud, strange sounds, even on its lowest setting, like it might break. We got only a quarter roll of toilet paper and one wet towel. WiFi didn't work in the room, and neither did the fridge. At least the shower got properly hot. Service didn't help. When we asked for a second towel, a staff member took one from a bush where it had been drying and tossed it on our bed, still damp. We reported the broken fridge; he made a note on his phone, but we never heard back. We saw only one staff member during the stay, and they weren't helpful. At 5:15am, a group of about 20 people woke us with loud conversations and shouting outside our door. Staff did nothing to quiet them down. You could find somewhere better for the same price or less. Don't waste your money. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

I stayed in three different places on my trip, and this one was surprisingly the best, even compared with the others that had much higher ratings. I honestly don't understand why this place is rated so low. The office staff were friendly, the room was spacious, and the location is brilliant. It did have a musty smell, but I found that common in all the places I stayed. It was $25 per night.

Beware of being charged twice. My Agoda booking was prepaid, but on Dec 4, 2025, the hotel still charged me another USD 132, saying the room hadn't been paid for. After I reported it and shared the payment details, they didn't handle the case properly or give a clear answer about a refund. This was a serious failure of trust and process. I don't recommend this property.

We arrived for a trip with a room booked and paid for, but the hotel wouldn't check us in. The receptionists were absolutely incompetent: they didn't speak English at all and didn't know how to use a computer. I had to open the system on their computer myself to get a refund. The hotel itself seems to be on its last legs.
