The breakfast was included and gave me a good start before work: coffee, tea, toast, eggs, jelly, rice, vegetables, sausages, and more. It saved time in the morning, so I could sleep a little longer, which I needed while settling in, meeting new colleagues, and having some Beerlao with them. I really enjoyed my stay at Oulayphet Hotel and would happily recommend it, especially over staying in a hostel. I came from Germany for a three-month internship and booked two weeks at the hotel in advance so I wouldn't have to search for accommodation, a motorbike, and initial bearings at the same time. It turned out to be a good choice. After a 15-hour flight, arriving in a clean, air-conditioned room and taking a warm shower was a relief. The owner speaks good English, as do his wife and the employees. They were all friendly and tried to help me find my way in the new surroundings. Laundry costs only 15.000 KIP per bag, and you can rent a motorbike there for half the usual price at other places. As a hotel guest, I didn't have to hand over my passport or a large security deposit for the bike. That made it much easier to explore the city, visit apartments, and look for my own motorbike independently.

The mattress was hard as a rock, the room smelled bad, and it was filthy. There were mosquitoes, and the toilet looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. We paid for two nights, but the next morning the owner knocked and told the woman at reception we had only paid for one. I found that dishonest. The area didn't look safe, though we didn't know what to expect since it was our first trip from Thailand to Laos for my visa. It's not close to anything, and I wouldn't recommend it.

It's clean and quiet, and the price is low. The embassies are nearby, and there's a temple behind the property. You can also hire a motorbike. Staff are helpful when you can find them, and knowing some Lao would be useful.

The receptionist didn't give good service when making reservations for local guests.

I've stayed here several times when visiting Vientiane, and the owner has always been very kind. I really like the place and found it very nice.
