The Palmyra Hotel, Baalbek is the kind of place you might love or hate, but it certainly stays with you. More than just a room, the hotel faces the magnificent Baalbek Temple complex, and seeing those ancient columns outside the window makes the place feel almost unreal. It’s an experience steeped in history and atmosphere. Original floors, antique furniture, art and photographs give the building plenty of character. Everything feels authentic and well cared for, like being in a warm, lively museum. The staff respect the hotel’s history and share stories that bring it to life. Breakfast and dinner were simple, home-style meals made with genuine, tasty local products and served with care. In the lounge or on the terrace, you can spend a quiet evening with tea or wine as the sun fades behind the ruins. The hospitality was gentle, sincere and never intrusive. I felt treated like someone who had come to experience the essence of Baalbek, not just a guest passing through. If you want a sense of meaning and timelessness along with your stay, Palmyra is unique and a place to remember.

I expected at least basic courtesy as a visitor, but the way I was treated was unacceptable. From the start, the staff were rude, dismissive and unhelpful. They spoke aggressively and disrespectfully for no reason instead of communicating politely or offering guidance. Their attitude left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable, and showed a clear lack of basic customer service. Based on that unprofessional treatment, I definitely don’t recommend this place.

No AC or elevator, though the weather was beautiful when we visited, so we still had a wonderful time. The Palmyra hotel has a charming, old-fashioned feel, with stories, photographs and an atmosphere that take you back in time. It overlooks the temples, making sunrise and sunset gorgeous. The sweet, accommodating staff have plenty of stories about the hotel’s 100+ years and its famous guests. The food was delicious, and there are restaurants down the street too. ✨✨

The generous breakfast was delicious, and there’s wifi and hot water. The rooms could use some maintenance and don’t have a TV. Still, the view straight onto the Roman Temples from the second floor is mesmerizing. This 150 year old hotel is full of stories and memories, with authentic old items, artifacts and photos of famous guests. Stepping inside feels like the start of a beautiful journey.

The room equipment has some downsides: there’s no AC, fridge, TV or landlines, and sometimes nobody is at the reception desk. The breakfast is good, though the coffee is poor quality instant 3 in 1 sachets. Still, the hotel has real charm and history, almost like sleeping in a museum, and its location facing the temples of Baalbek gives you a great view over the columns.
