We loved the garden, which used to be where the monks grew flowers daily for their temple. We were told this is the only house on Anuradhapura’s sacred ground, which made it feel even more special. The host was helpful, and everything was clean. We recommend eating here too, the food was the best we’ve had on our third trip to Sri Lanka. This beautiful old colonial villa is over 125 years old and very well maintained, a real treasure. Every corner is decorated with care. We arrived tired from traveling and the host was waiting outside with fresh lemonade in beautiful glasses. Our romantic room had been cooled in advance. A memorable three-night stay.

The Sri Lankan food was amazing, though there’s no dessert after meals if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s a nice little bungalow, and compared with most accommodation in the area, it’s luxurious. Cleanliness and attention to detail could be better. There are insects throughout the place, but that doesn’t bother me since it’s on acres of green land and insects are natural there. The hot water isn’t very hot, though that’s not essential in Anuradhapura. Bathroom water pressure could be better too.

We arrived today to find out that the owner had forgotten to cancel our booking. She didn’t offer us any alternative. The hospitality was poor.
