Bougain Villa

The rooms were okay and the location was good, but the service was awful. For a $50 room, basic things were missing or not working: there was no room service or room phone to call for help, the Wi-Fi didn’t work, and the AC wasn’t working properly. Our triple room had just one litre of water, and the hall had no fan or AC, so it was very hot. When we raised these problems, the manager, Danush, told us to check out and leave within minutes. He remained rude after we said we’d complain to the owner. As foreign tourists, English was the only language we could use, but Danush didn’t speak it well enough for us to communicate clearly. When we tried to ask questions, he looked at his phone, answered harshly, and didn’t look at us. I’ve never had such a bad hotel experience. I’d give zero stars if that were an option. If you’re willing to put up with that treatment and embarrassment, you could book here.

The outside looked lovely, but we ended up leaving and booking somewhere else. Bougain Villa paid for that room in the end, which was kind of them. We tried three rooms. The first had dead insects falling from the mosquito net, plus dead and live cockroaches. The next was crawling with loads of red ants. In the third, there was an ants’ nest in the shower, where they were eating a dead insect.

My kids had a good time with their cousins, and the property has a nice building, a pretty garden, a good sized pool, big rooms, and a quiet atmosphere. Those are all worth keeping. But the AC, toilet flush, sink tap, and TV weren’t working. There was no fan or internet, and it got too hot at night. The dining area hadn’t been cleaned, and there was no soap in the shared toilet or by the sink.

We rented the whole place for two nights with seven friends and our families. There was plenty of space, the property was well kept, and the staff were very helpful. Really good value for the money.
