Ashburnham Estate

We liked it so much that we extended our stay because we couldn’t bear to leave. The terrace has incredible valley views, especially at sunset, and the whole place feels peaceful and relaxing. There’s also a waterfall on the property. It’s a long climb down, but swimming there was great and well worth the stairs. Vish and Kalinga were attentive and clearly cared about making our time special. Huge thanks to them.

The tea tour with Das was a highlight. He shared loads of knowledge as he showed us around the estate, then we had a fun tasting and even foraged some local herbs and flowers. We also loved the Sri Lankan meals on both nights, and breakfast was just as good. Kalinga, the resident manager, and Vish at the front of house were warm, attentive, and keen to make our stay memorable. The balcony views at sunrise and sunset were breathtaking, and the walk down to the waterfalls was magical, whether we went at 7am or in the evening. The place feels special and nostalgic, like stepping back in time. It could use a bit of maintenance and care, but that didn’t take away from our stay and added to its charm. Highly recommended if you’re after somewhere authentic and truly memorable.

Ash was a lovely place for a quiet couple of days among Sri Lanka’s mountains. The hosts were so friendly, and the food was great every time. There’s beautiful scenery around the estate, with walks through the tea plantations and trails to waterfalls where you can take a dip. I’d definitely recommend it.

We had a great tour with the estate manager, and also visited a private waterfall and enjoyed afternoon tea. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food was delicious. The working tea estate has a beautiful setting and spectacular views. A lovely stay.
