Misty Cabins Ella

The terrace was my favorite spot, with a lovely valley view and mist drifting up around us. Being a 15-20 minute walk from Ella’s center suited me well, since it felt less busy and noisy and the scenery was beautiful. I got a free room upgrade because of construction work. It was clean and had towels, soap, bottled water, a kettle and tea bags. There were plants and little lights beside the bed that made it feel cozy. When I arrived, everyone welcomed me with smiles and a drink, so I felt at home straight away. The team arranged my laundry, made tasty breakfasts, and often offered tea or coffee. They also called a tuk tuk to Ravana Falls and Nine Arches Bridge for less than I’d have paid elsewhere, and suggested a nice massage place next door for a rainy day. I had some interesting conversations with the manager, who transformed the place into what it is now. I’ll definitely come back. Thanks for a great stay 🥰

The rooms were smelly and poorly maintained, and the bathroom was dirty, smelly, and uncomfortable to use. We had to ask specifically for towels and soap, which should have been provided as basic hospitality. We paid 6,000 LKR per room, but in my opinion the condition wasn’t worth even 1,500 LKR. What made us feel unwelcome from the start was staff asking for money before we’d settled in, despite our having already paid an advance. We booked Misty Cabin Ella with good expectations, but the stay was very disappointing. With so many lovely places in Ella, I wouldn’t recommend Misty Cabin. The stay was unpleasant and not worth the price. Management needs to improve cleanliness, service, and basic facilities before charging so much.

We really enjoyed our stay. The room and location were great, and the owner was very friendly. He also runs a restaurant there, where he cooks delicious food at the cheapest prices in Ella!

We were told our booking.com room had been double booked. The owner offered us the top room with a view for one night, then asked whether we could move the next day to make space for the other booking. The rooms felt like vehicle options, each with things the others didn’t 😂. We’d booked a double room with a private balcony and mountain view, as shown in the image. The top room had a very private mountain view, balcony, and clothes rack, but it was tiny, had no fan, water bottles, coffee sachets, or bin, and the single bed had no extra sheet. The bathroom was dark, and there were no handrails on the stairs. The room we moved to had no private view or balcony, but it was spacious and had a fan, coffee, water, a bin, and a quilt for the single bed. It was hard to know which room was supposed to be better 🙂. The photos also didn’t match the actual place, and the rooms seemed to have been laid out without a plan, while the bathrooms had quite a bit of space. I don’t think the Booking.com rating can be relied on. Breakfast was another problem. Although it was listed as included and we discussed what we wanted the night before, our requests weren’t followed. We asked for string hoppers, and got those with pol sambol and dhal, but no curry. We were told curry wasn’t provided because we hadn’t asked. The next day we spelled out the order: dhal, pol sambol, omelette, and pork curry. I was told there was no chicken or fish curry, only pork, and that it would cost extra. Since we’d already been inconvenienced over the booking, I objected to paying more for curry, and it was then provided free of charge. Even so, we only got the string hoppers, dhal, and pork curry, and I had to remind them about what we’d asked for the night before. I was also told the owner would give a cheaper price if I called directly, since Booking.com adds a charge. The difference was Rs. 1,700. The balcony was spacious and the view stunning, but sadly I wouldn’t recommend this place.
