Royal Vantage

The family were so sweet, and breakfast was delicious every day. Royal Vantage sits among the tea hills above the railway tracks, with amazing views of Ella rock. It’s less than a 5-minute walk into town, yet our stay was quiet and peaceful. We had a wonderful time and couldn’t recommend it more.

The private balcony and terrace were the best part, with an incredible view, a table and chairs, and a beanbag. Our room was big and comfortable. There’s no AC, but the fan kept it cool enough to sleep well, and we had a small fridge, kettle, tea, and coffee. It’s a great-value stay run by a lovely family. Breakfast was generous and delicious each morning: fruit, juice, tea or coffee, roti or hoppers, dahl, sambal, toast, jam, and omelettes. The location is handy for the Clay Pot restaurant and the UNK laundry, about five minutes away. It’s around a five-minute walk down the train tracks to the main town and about ten minutes from the station. The tracks are bumpy, so I’d only walk with backpacks, not a wheeled suitcase, as I learned the hard way. Then there’s a short but very steep hill up to Royal Vantage.

One of our favorite places we stayed in Sri Lanka, and it had the best WiFi of our trip. We loved sitting outside watching the trains, and the view was amazing. The owner was incredibly kind and made us a wonderful breakfast.

The balcony view is breathtaking, and the breakfasts were delicious. We had a fantastic host, and the place was peaceful and quiet despite being close to the city centre. Amazing stay, highly recommended!
