I arrived at Tunnel Top Inn Ella after a place I’d booked for three nights turned out to be a complete scam. It was 7pm in November, raining, and I was alone in the dark in an unfamiliar area, trying to find somewhere decent nearby. I called Tunnel Top Inn Ella, and luckily they could take me straight away. Though I was technically very close, driving around the mountains would have taken about 40 minutes. Once I told them where I was, they asked whether I could walk, since it was only five minutes away by hiking down the hill and crossing the railway. They suggested I wait where I was and sent two staff members with flashlights to meet me and guide me there. They gave me water as soon as I arrived and offered dinner. Just 15 minutes later, they brought it to my room with hot tea. It was so heartwarming, and I felt really looked after. There are only two rooms in the very new building, so it feels private and peaceful. My room was spacious, nice, and very clean, with amenities like a 5* resort. The balcony, and even the bed, had amazing views. You could watch misty morning clouds drift by, spot local birds and animals in their natural habitat, or see the railway leading to Nine Arches Bridge, with iconic trains passing and travelers leaning out of the doors and windows. Breakfast was generous and delicious, and they can serve it on your balcony if you want. Nine Arches Bridge is a short walk away, and the staff can arrange activities and transport to suit you. It’s a bit more expensive than other places of its kind nearby, but I thought it was worth it for the beautiful, relaxing space and the warm, friendly, attentive service.

The location was a big draw for us, just a two-minute walk from the famous Nine Arches Bridge. Our stay was peaceful and scenic, with incredible views over the valley and iconic train tracks from the room. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and we appreciated having free drinks throughout our stay. The staff were outstanding, super friendly and accommodating. They made us drinks, helped carry our luggage upstairs, and arranged a tuk tuk into Ella. Their hospitality really made the stay.

The breakfast was extensive and the best we’ve had so far in Sri Lanka. The staff also gave us attentive, personal care. Our room was spacious and very clean, and the hotel was peaceful, away from the center of Ella. It overlooks the railway tracks and is less than a five-minute walk from the world-famous Nine Arch Bridge. We had a fantastic stay at the small-scale Tunnel Top Inn hotel. Highly recommended!

The views from the rooms are incredible, and each morning we were served a large, free breakfast. The staff were all kind and helpful, and a free tuktuk service takes you through the mountains into Ella town, even though the accommodation isn’t right beside town. The driver was really helpful too. Our trip to Ella was a highlight of the holiday, especially because of this place. Thank you for looking after us!

The host treated our family like their own and helped arrange daily pick-ups and drop-offs in town, which made everything more comfortable. The location and views were unmatched, and I was even able to fly a drone and capture a beautiful video of the Nine Arch Bridge. We had an amazing stay with our kids, and I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Ella.
