We chose Thamaya House after some Sinhalese friends recommended it for our six-month stay. We wanted a fridge, hot water, and a washing machine, and had all of those. The host and his father are thoughtful and helpful: they lent us umbrellas in the rain, brought a lamp during a Galle-wide power cut, and gave me a ride so I could find my massage appointment. We also regularly get fresh fruit or juice from the garden. The terrace is our favorite spot for watching birds, monkeys, and more. We prefer staying among locals to being in a tourist hotel, so this suits us perfectly. Three Roses Restaurant, just around the corner, is great for lunch and dinner.
