Olympus Plaza Hotel

We expected a buffet dinner, but instead were given a beautifully prepared à la carte meal that felt like fine dining. The service was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. The food was full of flavor and beautifully presented, from the warm, fluffy bread and butter to the vegetable starter with a poached egg and the delicious creamy soup. The grilled fish with butter beans and thinly sliced potatoes was perfect, and the prawns were excellent too. Then came the desserts, an outstanding brownie and caramel pudding. Such a memorable meal in Haputale. Highly recommended!

The food was mixed. Breakfast was good, but the buffet dinner was less appealing. The attached little café had good snack meals, though they weren’t cheap. Rooms were small and basic. There was no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan, but the area was relatively cool. There’s no pool either. We had to ask for towels, the safe didn’t work, and the internet was very slow. The town felt scruffy, and there wasn’t much to do if you didn’t want to take the 10km hike tour. There were plenty of places in town for plumbing or building work, though! 😅 The hotel felt a bit below the standards of the earlier places we’d stayed, maybe 2.5 stars rather than 3.

The room was comfortable, though a little smaller than we expected. The location is lovely, with hill views and easy access to Haputale town. Food was fresh, delicious, and nicely presented, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The service was outstanding.

Chasindu, one of the Food & Beverage attendants, deserves a special mention. His polite, friendly service made our meal enjoyable. The food was delicious, customer service was excellent, and the hotel was clean and well maintained, with comfortable rooms and great facilities. I had a wonderful experience at Olympus Plaza Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Haputale!
